history

The Christian von Mannlich-Gymnasium was founded on October 1st, 1875 as the Stolz'sche Girls' Institute by the teacher Pauline Stolz. At the beginning, almost 20 students attended the institute, who were taught by two teachers. In 1903 the school was taken over by the Homburg municipal council. The first Abitur examination was taken in 1941, so the school was recognized as a full establishment. On March 14, 1945, during the Second World War , the school building in St. Michaelstrasse was destroyed.

The resumption of classes after the war in October 1945 was started under the name of the Girls Gymnasium and the classes moved to the Knabenrealgymnasium in the Oberen Allee. In 1948 the school was finally nationalized and construction of a new building began. On February 4, 1955, the then 347 schoolgirls moved into the new building on Hiltebrandtstrasse. In 1967, together with the first boys, English was introduced as the first foreign language. 1970 saw a major expansion. After the 1000 student mark was exceeded, the school received a second building and a pavilion. In 1972 parents and staff applied for a new name for the grammar school now attended by both sexes; so on November 21, 1974 the school was renamed Staatliches Mannlich-Gymnasium .

In 1992 the Saarpfalz district took over the sponsorship. From 2016 the school's dilapidated pavilion was torn down and replaced by a new building. The new building was carried out in low-energy construction and was inaugurated in 2018. Then work began on the main building.

particularities

The Christian von Mannlich-Gymnasium is one of the few schools in Saarland where the first foreign language is not French, but English. French is the second foreign language and Latin can be selected as the third foreign language. The Business English course is also offered from the 11th grade onwards, but it does not always take place.

At the end of the seventh grade, the students can choose one of the branches offered, which will then be continued until the end of the tenth grade. The branches available for selection are the linguistic branch and the scientific-mathematical branch, with an emphasis on the natural science subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The subject Latin, if chosen, is continued by the students up to class 10, at the end of which there is the Latinum examination , or up to class 12 as an advanced course.

The grammar school was recognized as a UNESCO project school .

There is also a sponsorship association that supports events and facilities at school and parenting. There is also the possibility of receiving financial support from the association for school trips. The association also supports events such as B. the open house, the school festival or the summer serenade.

In 2012 the international circle was founded at the Christian von Mannlich-Gymnasium. The aim of this gathering is to found a parents' association that brings German and foreign parents together. It should encourage them to contribute to the school community together and to find solutions to problems together.

The first issue of the school magazine mannlich.mag was published in 2014 . This contains information about the school and current activities.

In 2019, the high school was named "Energy Saving Champion 2019" by the Federal Ministry for the Environment .
