Paul Mustard

Paul Senf (born March 16, 1915 in Leipzig , † May 12, 1998 in Strasbourg , Alsace ) was a German economist , university professor and politician .

Life and work

After graduation Mustard took a degree in economics at the universities of Tübingen , Bonn and Frankfurt on which he with the examination to graduate in economics and in 1940 awarded the degree of Dr. rer. pole. finished. From 1946 to 1951 he worked as a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University , where he became a private lecturer in 1950 and since 1952 he has been an associate professor for economics with a focus on finance at the University of Saarbrücken . A year later he was given a chair as professor of economics.

Senf has published various economic policy papers since 1950. He had been a member of the Institut International de Finances Politiques since 1953 and became its general secretary in 1959. Since 1957 he was also a member of the Institut pour le Développement africain. As a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Ministry of Finance , he advised the Turkish government on economic policy issues in 1961.

Paul Senf was the father of three sons: Jochen Senf (Berlin, author, director and actor), Gerhard Senf (Saarbrücken, qualified psychologist) and Wolfgang Georg Senf (Essen, professor of psychosomatics).

Public offices

Senf, which did not belong to any political party, served as Minister of Finance and Forests in the Saarland government led by Prime Minister Johannes Hoffmann from July 17, 1954 to September 1955 . During his tenure, he was seen as an opponent of close economic ties to France, and in May 1955 he played a leading role in drafting the Franco-Saar economic treaty. After Arthur Heitschmidt's death , on February 6, 1963, he was reappointed as Minister of Finance and Forests in the state government led by Prime Minister Franz-Josef Röder . On July 19, 1965, he resigned from the government and was replaced in his ministerial office by Helmut Bulle .
