Alfred Wilhelm

Alfred Wilhelm (born December 15, 1920 in Hülzweiler ; † April 2, 2015 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

After elementary school, Wilhelm completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1940 he was drafted as a soldier and in 1944 he became an American prisoner of war, from which he was released in 1947. He then worked in a sawmill and was an employee in an industrial mill.

Wilhelm had been a member of the CDU since 1955. In 1965 he was elected to the Saarland state parliament, to which he was a member until his resignation in June 1984. From 1970 to 1973 he was chairman of his parliamentary group. On February 22, 1973 he succeeded Helmut Bulle as Minister of Finance and Forests in the Röder IV cabinet . After a government reshuffle in January 1974 ( Röder V ), he took over the post of Interior Minister from Ludwig Schnur . He also held this office in the Röder VI and Zeyer I cabinets . In May 1980 he was replaced by Rainer Wicklmayr .

Wilhelm was a Roman Catholic. He was married and had two children.

Honors

Wilhelm was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit on April 4, 1986 .
