Berthold Budell (born November 23, 1929 in Ramstein-Miesenbach ; † May 10, 2010 in Homburg ) was a German politician ( CDU ), educator and doctor of biology .

Life

1964–1967 he was state chairman of the Junge Union in Saarland . In the years 1965–1970 and 1973–1990 he was a member of the state parliament in Saarland, from 1977–1980 also as chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1984 to 1985 he was finally Minister for the Environment, Spatial Planning and Construction.

In 1971 Budell founded the Association for Environmental Protection and was its 1st chairman until 1977. In 1976 he initiated the Naturland Foundation Saar together with his cabinet colleague at the time, Rainer Wicklmayr , who developed the concept . The triggering moment for the establishment of this foundation was the observation that in the 1960s and especially in the 1970s the large-scale change and destruction of habitats for flora and fauna represented the basic problem of nature conservation, to which there was no adequate response until then. As an appropriate response to the destruction of natural landscapes, Wicklmayr developed the concept of a systematic purchase of biotopes by the new foundation; According to the initiators, this offered the best protection against interventions that could destroy the landscape.

Honors

On January 7, 1991, Budell was awarded the Saarland Order of Merit.
