Franz Zhorny

Franz Zhorny (*  1949 in Vienna ; †  January 20, 2006 there ) was an Austrian handball goalkeeper .

Franz Zhorny experienced the zenith of his sporting career in the 1978/79 season after he moved from Union West-Vienna to UHK Krems . In the nine years of his career he never managed to achieve the championship title with a team. His sporting career ended in St. Pölten , initially as a player and finally as a manager of the Union, in whose promotion from the state to the A league he played a key role.

As a goalkeeper for the Austrian national team , he played 80 times and took part in five world championship tournaments.

On the day of his death, Zhorny suddenly collapsed after feeling unwell during a funeral.
