The year 2015 in Europe was marked by a refugee crisis and terrorist attacks in Paris on “Charlie Hebdo” in January and in several places in November . Germany was shaped by the Germanwings crash in the French Alps and the VW emissions scandal . In Austria , 2015 was also marked by the rampage in Graz and the refugee tragedy near Parndorf . In addition, the Paris Agreement , which was to determine climate policy in the coming years, was passed.

The year 2015 was globally the warmest year since records began in 1880. The average temperature (over land and sea combined) was 0.90 degrees above the average of the 20th century (13.9 degrees Celsius), and 0.16 Degrees higher than 2014. It was the 39th year in a row that global temperatures were above average. Fifteen of the sixteen warmest years worldwide were in the 21st century. In Germany, 2015 was the second warmest year to date.

Disasters

  • The Ebola fever , which has been epidemic in West Africa since mid-2014 , has continued, but has been decreasing more and more since the middle of the year; assuming a high number of unreported cases, the death toll reached 11,315 by December 27, 2015.

Natural disasters

  • 14./15. March: One of the strongest cyclones ever measured causes severe damage in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu .
