Arno Klönne (born May 4, 1931 in Bochum ; † June 4, 2015 ) was a German sociologist , political scientist and university professor.

Life and fields of activity

Scientific career

Klönne, who comes from a family of teachers, studied history, sociology and politics in Marburg and Cologne from 1951 . In Marburg he wrote his doctoral thesis on the Hitler Youth with Wolfgang Abendroth . After completing his studies, he worked for five years as a state youth worker in Wiesbaden before he switched back to university. After scientific employment at the social research center at the University of Münster in Dortmund, Göttingen , Bielefeld and in Münster , he was appointed to a professorship at the University of Paderborn in 1978 . In 1995 Klönne retired .

His youth sociological study Youth in the Third Reich is considered a standard work on the history of the Hitler Youth and their opponents. In addition, Klönne published on the subjects of fascism and right-wing extremism , the history of the labor movement and international politics.

In 1961 Klönne founded the record label plans together with Gerd Semmer , Dieter Süverkrüp and Frank Werkmeister . Since 1957 he was involved in the publication of a magazine of the same name. With the record label, a publisher of the same name was created. In the 1960s he was a spokesman for the Easter march movement ; after the establishment of the Socialist Bureau as a collecting basin for the independent left in 1969, it also played a central role there. He was an employee of the magazine song and co-editor of the magazine Ossietzky , partner of the publishing house Ossietzky and member of the association ikoplan - Institute for Communication, Organization and Planning .

In 1960 Klönne temporarily left the SPD due to Herbert Wehner's positive position on NATO . In the 1970s he was banned from all party functions for two years. The occasion was his book Did Wehner destroy the SPD? from 1975.

After his final exit from the SPD in 2004, Klönne founded the Democratic Initiative Paderborn , which ran in local elections in the same year and has since been represented on the Paderborn city council.
