The Bardentreffen is a three-day open-air music festival that takes place every summer in Nuremberg . It starts on the first Friday of the Bavarian summer vacation. Entry to all venues is traditionally free. It took place for the first time on the 400th anniversary of the death of the Meistersinger Hans Sachs in 1976 . The nine stages of the individual event locations extend over the entire historic old town . In the early years, political protest and love songs dominated the content, after which it developed more strongly into a multi-cultural festival. To celebrate the 40th anniversary, the event was extended by one day in 2015 and began on Thursday evening, July 30, 2015.

The city of Nuremberg and sponsors bear the costs. Bards , d. H. Songwriters and bands from all over the world, including often young and still unknown talents, appear on several stages. Furthermore, a lot of musicians and bands play in the entire city center. With an average attendance of 200,000, the Bardentreffen is one of the most famous and popular festivals of its kind.

In terms of content, a distinction is made between traditional music, trends and experiments . Are represented stylistically singer-songwriter , singer-songwriter and world music . The main criteria are your own songs and vocals, pure instrumental groups, cover and tribute bands are not considered.

The special thing about this festival is the mixture of bands from the official festival program, which appear on the nine stages, and the many unknown artists who are spread over the entire old town. Within the old town of Nuremberg, anyone who feels called to perform can perform during the festival. In the Karolinenstraße there especially for this purpose a small stage with no fixed program.
