LaBrassBanda is from overseas at the Chiemsee originating brass music group led by lead singer and trumpet player Stefan Dettl . The band name is a portemanteau of the Italian la banda and the English brass band , which both mean "brass band" in German. The music belongs to the genre of new folk music . You yourself also refer to your music as Bavarian Gypsy Brass , Funk Brass or Alpine Jazz Techno .
Band history
During a stay in New York City, Stefan Dettl was fascinated by how groups such as the Youngblood Brass Band combine traditional brass music with hip-hop , funk and jazz influences . The music student found four like-minded people at the Richard Strauss Conservatory with Andreas Hofmeir (tuba), Oliver Wrage (bass), Manuel Winbeck (trombone) and Manuel da Coll (drums) and founded LaBrassBanda with them in 2007. The band achieved greater fame through their tour from their home country to the final of the European Football Championship 2008 in Vienna. They did this with mopeds and a tractor with a trailer, on which they played open concerts .
In 2009 the band performed at the invitation of the Goethe Institute at the German cultural festival sibSTANCIJA 09 in Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok . There were other concerts in Omsk , Krasnoyarsk and Moscow . In the same year LaBrassBanda performed at the Harare International Festival of Arts in Zimbabwe , presented by the German Embassy and the Zimbabwe German Society, and at the Roskilde Festival . A concert film by Marcus H. Rosenmüller documents a LaBrassBanda performance on October 23, 2009 in the sold out Circus Krone in Munich . With “Habe di Ehre Übersee” - Eine Band , a documentary about the band was made in 2009. In July 2011, four concerts took place in the USA at the invitation of the German embassy , including one at Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles .
From 2007 to 2015 LaBrassBanda played more than 700 concerts. They have been guests at various festivals such as the Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel , the South German sister festival Southside in Neuhausen ob Eck , the Highfield Festival in Großpösna , the Sziget Festival in Budapest , the Haldern Pop on the Lower Rhine and the Chiemsee Reggae Summer in Overseas. On December 4, 2011, they finished the overseas tour in front of 12,000 fans in the Munich Olympic Hall . This performance was recorded and published as Live Olympiahalle Munich in 2012 . Following the tour, the members devoted themselves to further developing their own projects. For example, Dettl released the solo albums Rockstar (2011), Summer of Love (2012) and Soultrain (2016). Tuba player Andreas Hofmeir has been a full professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 2006 and in 2012 gave various concerts and “musical readings” and conducted workshops for tuba .
LaBrassBanda achieved second place behind Cascada in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the title Nackert . They won the one-week radio audience voting, took second place in the television audience voting , but received only one point from the jury. In 2015 they received the Bavarian Poet Thaler from the Munich tower writers .
Bassist Oliver Wrage left the band in June 2013; Mario Schönhofer took his place. In the summer of 2013 LaBrassBanda appeared as the opening act for the Doctors' tour . Since the 2013 tour, they have also been supported by Jörg Hartl and Korbinian Weber on trumpet and Tobias Weber on percussion, who were also an integral part of the band until 2016. Stefan Huber has represented Andreas Martin Hofmeir on tuba since 2014, and guitarist Fabian Jungreithmayr has been expanding the group since the 2014 beer tent tour. An invitation of the band to the 124th Gautrachtenfest 2014 in Ruhpolding by the organizing Gauverband I aroused displeasure with the honorary chairman of the Bavarian Trachtenverband Otto Dufter because of the alleged break in tradition: LaBrassBanda generally appear in lederhosen, but barefoot.
The group recorded their album Kiah Royal , released in 2014, in a cowshed. Guest musicians were Christoph Well , Rocko Schamoni and Stephan Remmler . Mario Schönhofer ( bass ) and Tobias Weber ( percussion ) have had their own project with Ströme since the end of 2015 and left the band at the beginning of 2016.
