Willy Astor
Wilhelm Gottfried "Willy" Astor (born September 6, 1961 in Munich ) is a German cabaret artist , musician and composer .
Life
Astor grew up in the Munich district of Hasenbergl and attended primary and secondary school there. After graduating from school in 1976, he completed vocational training as a toolmaker at BMW and then advanced training to become a mechanical engineer , which he completed in 1985.
At the age of 14 he began to play the accordion , from 1979 he learned to play the guitar in a community college course , later increasingly self-taught , including sheet music such as the "Folkpicking for Fingerstyle-Guitar" by Sigi Schwab . Since around 1983 Astor has been writing his first songs and prose texts, which were performed in the Munich cabaret scene on the Musikalisches Unterholz (MUH) stage, in the Robinson song stage , in the Neuhausen art cellar, etc.
After completing his professional training, Astor decided to pursue his cabaret work full time. The programs “Lieder, Nonsens, Instrumentals”, “Oamoi neidabt glangt” and “Merci Mausi” received little attention from the audience. Astor earned his living as a guitar lecturer at the Munich Adult Education Center and at the Free Music Center.
From the early 1990s onwards, Astor became known primarily for his wordplay cabaret numbers, in which he packs identical or similar-sounding words into texts that are in themselves irrelevant. For example, Radkäppchen and the bad Golf tells the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood , but uses a number of automobile components and brands in the text. Something similar can be found in the smokers' fairy tale with cigarette brands or in the multi-part pieces "international matches" with countries and cities. The play on words can also be found in Astor's music. He often provides well-known songs with new texts, for example The House of the Rising Sun of the Animals at Astor becomes the See-Haus in the Freising sun , which of course is a Bello property due to its good location (based on Gianna Nannini : Bello e impossibile ).
Astor became better known with his first radio and television appearances in Bavaria and his writing for the radio station Antenne Bayern , which also broadcast Astor's comedy program Die Feuchtgrubers from 1990 to 1999 . Bavarian television broadcast an hour from Astor's current program for the first time in 1993, followed in 1996 by the successful series Die Willy Astor-Show with Günter Grünwald, among others .
In 1997 Astor composed the current hymn of FC Bayern Munich , Stern des Südens , with Stephan Lehmann , his colleague at the time at Antenne Bayern and stadium announcer for FC Bayern Munich, contributing to the text. The interpretation of Bayern fans United came in February 1998 at number 67 in the German single charts.
With his play on words he was represented at Bayern 3 with the weekly comedy contribution Willys Wortstudio based on The current sportstudio and from 1999 onwards he was a frequent guest at 7 Tage, 7 Köpf . He also performed a full program at the Arosa Humor Festival in 2009 .
Astor has given numerous concerts since the mid-1990s - with his self-composed instrumental titles, mainly written for guitar, he now has five albums. With the album Leuchtende Tage he takes a more thoughtful and critical direction in the songwriting tradition. He spans a wide range from the funny, fun cabaret artist to the "philosophizing" musician.
In 1994 he was awarded the Upper Swabian Cabaret Prize Ravensburger Kupferle .
In 2013, Willy Astor, together with the project Cpt. Nepomuk's Friendly Heart Choir Club for the flood victims from Bavaria on the song Weida mitanand .
