Bayern 3 (spelling: BAYERN 3 ) is the third radio program of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) and its pop wave.

history

Service wave

Bayern 3 started broadcasting on April 1, 1971. Before that, the ARD guest worker program had been broadcast on the frequencies since 1964 in the evenings . In 1971, the first nationwide service wave was launched : the program included hourly news, traffic reports and current information, such as glider weather, avalanche conditions and water level reports. In the first few years mainly pre-produced - partly unmoderated - programs ran. News and entire broadcasts were temporarily taken over directly from Bayern 1 . In some cases there were pauses for several minutes during which only the signal from the Bavarian Radio, the melody of the song line Solang der alten Peter could be heard. At the end of the 1970s, various hands-on courses such as isometric exercises against tension at the workplace and fitness exercises for skiers, moderated by Rosi Mittermaier and Christian Neureuther , provided variety in the program .

From the beginning of the 1980s, moderated magazine and music programs shaped the program. Well-known Bayern 3 moderators at that time were Thomas Gottschalk , Günther Jauch , Thomas Brennicke , Sandra Maischberger , Peter Illmann , Fritz Egner and Rüdiger Stolze .

If in the early 1990s the choice of music was still in the hands of individual music editors or the moderators, this was given up in favor of the desired transparency of the program through a uniform music color in the sense of an adult-contemporary format. Magazine programs like the morning telegram also disappeared as current reporting was replaced by entertainment, comedy and consumer information .

Night program

Between the late 1980s and January 6, 2008, the program was taken over by SWF3 and SWR3 during the night . Only in the night from Thursday to Friday, in which the BR was the regular issuing institution of the ARD Popnacht , and in the night from Friday to Saturday, there was a night program designed by Bayern 3. However, Bayern 3 now produces its own nightly program every day. Is broadcast Bayern 3 - Through the Night Monday - Sunday 00:05 to 05:00.

New formats

From May 2013. Bayern 3 took over from Friday 22:00 to Saturday morning at 05:00 the program of BR-youth wave pulse . This realignment continued with a program reform from August 2015: For more than 20 years, Bayern 3 broadcast themed music programs hosted by music editors under the title NightLife (such as “Singers & Songs” on Monday, “Classic Rock” on Tuesdays ) from 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and on Wednesday “Baumanns Rockperlen”). Even more evening programs were covered with special broadcasts, the newcomers show on Thursday night (formerly Friday night) and the created in the 40th Sendejubliläum Kultabend (Sunday 20:00 to 22:00). Bayern 3 offers a 24-hour live program and its main target group is primarily to appeal to listeners between the ages of 14 and 49. The station plays the hits from the 2000s to today and also increasingly new music, especially in the evenings. Every Friday from 7:00 p.m., the Bavarian Top 25 are broadcast as part of the Bayern 3 Chartshow (formerly hit of the week ).

Bayern 3 - news

Bayern 3 news is broadcast every full hour; in the morning between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., the news is broadcast every 30 minutes during the week. In addition, every half hour from Monday to Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. there is the Bayern 3 at half past the format , in which the most important news from the Bavarian regions can be heard. Since the corona pandemic, only information on this topic has been sent in the corona update at 6:30 p.m.

Bavaria 3 - weather

The Bayern 3 weather is broadcast Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. by the Bayern 3 weather presenters every full and every half hour. Outside of these times, the moderators do this themselves, but reports are only available on the hour from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. At the weekend, the presenters are present from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and provide information about the weather every 30 minutes, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the moderators also every half hour.

Bavaria 3 - traffic update

“The Bayern 3 traffic update” reports every full and half hour of the traffic situation on the Bavarian motorways, federal highways and railways. In addition, the broadcast can be interrupted at any time, for example to report a wrong-way driver . In addition, the so-called Bayern drivers can contact the transmitter and report a traffic jam, etc. Since the beginning of 2014, the loss of time has been read out in the event of major traffic jams and obstructions.

The melody that can be heard before the traffic information is the opening note of the old Munich folk song Solang der alten Peter . This means the oldest surviving city church of St. Peter in Munich .

Bayern 3 is currently broadcast across Bavaria and in neighboring areas via VHF and is fed into all cable networks in the terrestrial transmission range. In addition, the program can be received via the Internet and DVB-S (since the International Radio Exhibition 2005). A DAB broadcast takes place in large parts of Bavaria on channel 11D. In South Tyrol , Bayern 3 is broadcast by the Südtirol broadcaster in the DAB + standard. In addition, Bayern 3 is part of the program of the South African Deukom .

In addition to terrestrial broadcasting, the program can also be received via smartphone apps based on CrowdRadio technology. The apps are available for the Android and iOS operating systems.

Bayern 3 is broadcast over the Internet in two formats, each with two data rates (48 or 56 kB / s and 128 kB / s) in MP3 format ( M3U ) and as Windows Media Audio ( ASX ).

Audience acceptance

The audience acceptance of Bayern 3 is expressed in the survey evaluations of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Media-Analyze e. V. (agma) in the Media Analysis Audio (ma Audio). According to this, 2.55 million people across Germany listen to Bavaria 3 every day. The stated daily range in Bavaria is 19.7 percent (ma 2020 Audio II).

Events

Bavaria 3 village festival

Since 2008 the Bayern 3 village festival has been held annually in changing municipalities in Bavaria. For this purpose, the broadcaster organizes a stage program with artists and provides a professional concert stage including technology, lighting and sound systems. "Villages" from all over Bavaria can apply as an event location, provided they can provide an event site of sufficient size and quality. Where the event will take place was decided in a competition until 2018 in which the applicants competed against each other in a multi-round competition. Since then, Bayern 3 has determined the venue itself after receiving the applications. Admission is free for visitors.

In 2019 the planned village festival in Unterthingau / Kraftisried had to be canceled for safety reasons after persistent rain. In 2020 the open air festival could not take place due to the global corona pandemic .

Bavaria 3 party ship

Comedy Summit

Every fall, Bayern 3 hosted the so-called Comedy Summit until the 2000s , at which comedians such as Chris Boettcher , Bruno Jonas , Rick Kavanian , Willy Astor and Wolfgang Krebs performed.

90 years of radio

On October 18, 2013, Bayern 3 broadcast its early morning program Die Frühaufdreher from the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residence . As a tribute to "90 Years of Radio in Germany" were all broadcast elements such as news jingle, background music, weather etc. and Traffic music live from the Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra recorded.
