history

Until the church is planted

The first documentary mention can be found in a donation from Otto the Great as "Tiuoningouvue", who donated the place to the Kempten Monastery , which subsequently drove the clearing of this area. Bishop Ulrich von Augsburg donated a farm in Thingau to the Kempten monastery in 950 and is said to have consecrated a church here in 963. An Odalrich de Tonego was handed down as the first pastor around 1100. The place name Thingau is traced back to the personal name Tuono, a differentiation between Unter- and Oberthingau can be proven from 1357. Since 1465, Unterthingau had been the seat of a village court of the prince monastery Kempten . Unterthingau received in 1485 from Emperor Friedrich III. the market right with important proprietary rights awarded. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place came with the care office Thingau to Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , the municipality of Unterthingau was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Administrative affiliation

In 1873, Unterthingau was incorporated into the Markt Oberdorf district office and the Obergünzburg district court. As part of the regional reform , the district of Marktoberdorf was dissolved, and Unterthingau has since been part of the newly created district of Ostallgäu.
