Günzach is a municipality in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu .

The community is located in the Allgäu region and in the headwaters of the eastern Günz between 752 m above sea level (eastern Günz) and 892 m above sea level (east of Heimenhalden).

history
Until the church is planted
Günzach was founded around 1730 and at that time belonged to the Prince Abbey of Kempten. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality of Immenthal came into being with the municipal edict of 1818 . However, there are earlier settlement features (foundations of a Roman villa).
Name change
On September 27, 1976, the Immenthal community was officially renamed Günzach .

Günzach grew from 1988 to 2008 by 216 inhabitants or approx. 17%. Between 1988 and 2018, the community grew from 1253 to 1460 by 207 inhabitants or 16.5%.

The community is a member of the Obergünzburg administrative community .
Mayoress
Wilma Hofer (Pro Günzach) has been the first mayor since May 2014; on March 15, 2020, it was elected for a further six years with 60.63% of the votes. Her predecessor was Brigitte Schröder (2002–2014); until 2002 Georg Häring ( CSU / non-party voters) was at the head of the community.
Municipal council
The election on March 15, 2020 had the following result:
- Pro Günzach : 7 seats (58.51%)
- CSU : 5 seats (41.49%).
The turnout was 70.96%.

Architectural monuments
economy
In 1998 there were nine employees in the field of agriculture and forestry, 331 in the manufacturing sector and 18 in the trade and transport sector. In other economic areas, 17 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 459 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one company in the manufacturing industry (as well as mining and quarrying of stones and earth), none in the main construction industry. In addition, in 1999 there were 66 farms with an agricultural area of 1643 ha.
The first Camembert was produced in the Albrechts district (cheese factory closed during World War I). Günzach is the home of the patented pear juice bread.
The Günzach paper factory, formerly 4P Nicolaus, is now called Technocell Dekor and is part of the Felix Schoeller Group .
traffic
The Günzach train station is located on the Bavarian Allgäu Railway and, according to an information board on the station building, is 801 m and is the highest double-track train station in Germany. However, on the double track is Badische Schwarzwaldbahn located Bahnhof Sankt Georgen with a height of 806 m above sea level even higher.
