history

Until the church is planted

Baisweil is located in the northwest of the Ostallgäu in a valley, framed by lateral moraines, at approx. 680 m above sea level. The Roman road Kempten - Augsburg used to run there. Traces of early settlement along the hill to the southeast go back to this time.

The place or the castle of the Lords of Baisweil with the name "Beizwile" was first mentioned in 1130. After the local nobility, which settled on the northwestern edge of the hill, died out early, Baisweil belonged to the imperial abbey of Irsee from 1496 to 1803 . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

19th and 20th centuries

After a church tower collapsed on Easter vigil in 1886, a church in neo-Romanesque style was built and consecrated in 1906.

To this day, the place has a rural structure. But in the past few decades the number of farms has also decreased considerably. The community has been part of the Eggenthal administrative community since May 1, 1978 .
