Mauerstetten is a municipality in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu .

Mauerstetten is located in the Allgäu region , about four kilometers east of Kaufbeuren .

history

Until the church is planted

Mauerstetten belonged to the Irsee Imperial Monastery. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria , today to Bavaria . In 1818 the community came into being.

20th century

During the Nazi regime , the Steinholz part of the community was the location of the "Riederloh II" concentration camp , a satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp . The prisoners worked as forced laborers in the Dynamit AG explosives factory in Kaufbeur .

922 Jewish prisoners arrived on September 4, 1944, and another 100 came later. In the four months that the camp existed, 472 prisoners died under the inhuman working conditions and the occurrence of epidemics. Their bodies were buried in a wooded area. Today there is a concentration camp cemetery with a memorial stone in memory of those who were murdered.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Frankenried was incorporated.

Population development

From 1988 to 2008 Mauerstetten grew by 599 inhabitants or approx. 25%. Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,388 to 3,154 by 766 inhabitants or by 32.1%. The following were counted in the municipality:

Municipal council

The municipal council has 16 members. In the municipal council election on March 16, 2014 and the election on March 15, 2020 , the following results were achieved:

The turnout was 73.5% in 2014 and 75.5% in 2020.

mayor

On March 2nd, 2008, Armin Holderried was elected mayor. In the 2014 local elections he was confirmed in office with 50.4% of the votes. On March 29, 2020, he was elected for a further six years in the runoff election with 53.11% of the vote; the turnout was 80.87%.

Attractions

The Mariengrotte in Mauerstetten is one of the oldest in the region. It was built on the east side of St. Vitus Church as early as 1890. In 1927 the pastor at the time moved it to the west side of the cemetery. For this purpose, tuff stones were brought in from the Irsee grinding mill . In 2007 the grotto was renovated.

The municipal tax revenue in 2016 was € 4,727 thousand, of which € 2,621 thousand (net) was trade tax income. Mauerstetten thus has a tax power that is far above average and therefore does not receive any key assignments. The community has been debt free since 2015.

In 2016 there were 1,859 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 1156 people were in employment subject to compulsory insurance. This means that the number of inbound commuters was 703 higher than the number of outbound commuters. 23 residents were unemployed.

The vast majority of local jobs in 2016 were in the manufacturing industry (1,026). Three people were employed in agriculture and forestry, and 633 in trade, transport and hospitality. The corporate service providers employed 53 people and the public and private service providers 144 employees.

The largest employer in the community is Chr. Mayr GmbH + Co. KG with around 700 employees at its headquarters in Mauerstetten and more than 1200 employees worldwide. Mayr is a global manufacturer of safety couplings, shaft couplings and safety brakes.

In 2010 the statistics still show 30 farms; 1049 hectares of the communal corridor were agricultural land.

State road St 2014 leads from Mauerstetten to Kaufbeuren. The federal road 12 runs between Mauerstetten and Kaufbeuren , a municipal road leads there. From 1922 there was a train station in Mauerstetten on the Kaufbeuren – Schongau railway line . 1972 the passenger traffic and 1977 the freight traffic was stopped and the line was closed. Today the themed cycle paths steam locomotive circuit and the Sachsenrieder Bähnle run along the embankment of the former branch line , which was officially opened at the end of September 2013 at the Waldbahnhof in Sachsenrieder Forst and continues on or next to the embankment to Schongau station.

education

  • two day-care centers with 145 places and 153 supervised children, 47 of them under three years of age, 88 between three and five years of age and 18 between six and eleven years of age
  • Hörmann elementary school (grades 1–4) with nine full-time teachers and 131 students
