history

Until the church is planted

The place was first mentioned in 929 as "Villa Buosahoua". Biessenhofen belonged to the prince abbey of Kempten and from 1610 to the bishopric of Augsburg . There was also the small lordship of Ottilienberg, formed in 1551 from the remnants of the Kemnat lordship by Simprecht von Benzenau, with the village center and Altdorf court as the center. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the places in the municipality belong to Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipal edict of 1818 created the political municipality, which was called Altdorf 'until December 1976.

19th to 21st century

In 1852 Biessenhofen was connected to the railway . In the years from 1864 to 1876 the court train of the Bavarian royal family often stopped there and the nobles got into the carriages provided to get to Füssen. In 1905 Allgäuer Alpenmilch AG settled in Biessenhofen.

At the end of the Second World War there was a large release camp for the US Army in Biessenhofen due to its convenient location .

On December 23, 1976, the name of the Altdorf community was officially changed to Biessenhofen. The new name of the community was only determined by a government ordinance after a public hearing.

In 2014, important grave goods from Alemannic graves from the 5th and 6th centuries were recovered in the Altdorf district. It is also assumed that the Roman settlement Escone was near Altdorf.

Incorporations

On April 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Ebenhofen was incorporated into the municipality of Altdorf.

Biessenhofen grew by 233 inhabitants or around six percent from 1988 to 2008. Between 1988 and 2018 the community grew from 3788 to 4134 by 346 inhabitants or 9.1%.

One of them is the Bavarian Allgäu Railway from Munich to Lindau (Bodensee) (see also Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn from Lindau via Kempten (Allgäu) towards Augsburg and on to Nuremberg ), one of the oldest Bavarian railway lines. Since most of the trains turn off from Buchloe to Munich today , you also have a connection there.
