history
Until the church is planted
Aitrang is one of the oldest settlements in the area and emerged from Aitrachwang. Field names such as Im Grubach , Krumstrang and Krumstrangäcker , as well as traces of prehistoric agriculture, suggest a Celtic settlement. The place is mentioned in a deed of gift from the Frankish king Pippin des Kurzen (741–768). The place was the imperial bailiwick of the St. Mang (Füssen) monastery , which had jurisdiction since 1227 . The Reichsvogtei was pledged several times and was last acquired by the Princely Monastery of Kempten in 1524. In 1632, during the Thirty Years' War , Aitrang suffered from looting after the invasion of the Swedes; in 1633/1634 the Croatians in the imperial service invaded Aitrang. In 1648 the French, allied with the Swedes, occupied and in the same year a whole Hungarian regiment took the place. A major fire disaster in 1797 destroyed over 40 houses and numerous barns. Before 1803, the rights of the St. Mang monastery and the prince monastery of Kempten overlapped in the place. In the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 the place fell to the princes Oettingen-Wallerstein . With the Rhine Confederation Act in 1806 he came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Aitrang train accident
On the journey from Munich to Zurich on February 9, 1971, the TEE 56 " Bavaria ", an RAm diesel multiple unit of the SBB , drove through a right-hand bend at 130 km / h behind Aitrang station, although it was only approved for 80 km / h. The train derailed, destroyed the opposite track and some wagons fell down an embankment. A short time after the accident, a rail bus coming from the opposite direction drove to the scene of the accident. The accident killed 28 people and injured 42. Because frozen water line of the brake hoses air brakes blocked, the engineer in leading could control car of the TEE only with the electric brake of the rail car brakes at the end of the train.
Incorporations
On the occasion of the municipal reform , the independent municipality of Huttenwang with the hamlets of Neuenried, Umwangs and Wolfholz was incorporated into Aitrang on May 1, 1978. On January 1, 1982, the hamlet of Wenglingen with the wastes Lohbauer and Unger (previously in the municipality of Ruderatshofen ) was reclassified after a referendum.
