Balthasar Freiwiss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Balthasar Freiwiß (also Freiwis, Freywis or Freiweis) (* 1710 in Aitrang ; † 14 May 1783 ibid) was a German organ builder who did his apprenticeship with Joseph Gabler in Ochsenhausen . He had probably previously been an apprentice to Ehinger.

He had his workshop in Aitrang. The brochures of his organs are among the most beautiful of the Rococo. His successor in the workshop was his son-in-law Franz Thoma (around 1745-1817).
