The Rosinakapelle in Wenglingen

The Rosinakapelle in Wenglingen is the only place in the entire Diocese of Augsburg where Saint Rosina is venerated.

Saint Rosina

Much has been puzzled about the origin of Saint Rosina, but it is historically clear: Rosina lived before the 14th century. The exact when is of course in the dark. Perhaps the sacred register of Germania is right when it names 1000 as the year of death. The palm and sword in the Wenglingen picture are signs of a successful martyrdom and point to a bloody end of Rosina's life. The feast of Saint Rosina is celebrated in Wenglingen on March 11th .

history

The Rosina Chapel is first mentioned in a visitation report from 1679. It can be assumed, however, that a chapel already existed before the current building from the years 1700 to 1706, as outlines of Gothic windows came to light during the repair of the external plaster . These had a height of 1.20 m in the shape of a pointed arch and a maximum of 0.40 m in the hive . According to experts, this part of the chapel dates from before 1500.

The neo-Romanesque altar with the picture of Saint Rosina was created in 1876. At the bottom right you can see Saint Barbara around 1700 and at the bottom left Saint Anne herself , probably from the 18th century based on a Gothic model.

The upper figures, which were added later, represent the Mother of God on the right and Saint Apollonia on the left. The altarpiece was painted by Pastor Kögel from apple strands according to traditional models. According to this, the altarpiece existed long before the altar was erected, because Pastor Kögel worked from 1720 to 1735 in the apple tree.

The Way of the Cross was revised in 1896 .

In 1907, relics consecrated in the altar were placed in the altar by the Bishop of Augsburg and covered with Latin wording. The translated altar inscription reads:

“In 1907, on January 28th, this altar was consecrated by the very esteemed and venerable Mr. Maximilian , by the mercy of God and the grace of the Apostolic See, Bishop of Augsburg , after the holy relics of martyrs were enclosed and the other ceremonies were performed according to the rite of the Holy Roman Church. In this belief the present relics have been covered from above.

Augsburg, the above-mentioned date

The most honorable cathedral dean of Augsburg
Canon and episcopally authorized seal bearer
Mrs. A. Kaufmann "

The raw wood altar was marbled in 1936, the shell painted white and the benches painted. The simple shingle roof was replaced by a double plain tile roof in 1942. After the bell cracked, it was replaced by a new, heavier bell in 1956.

Since the bell tower had leaned, it was dismantled and rebuilt in 1966. In 1972 the interior and exterior painting was renewed.

When the chapel was broken into in 1975, the altar cross, two candlesticks and a figure were stolen.

A repeated renewal of the interior and exterior painting took place in 1980, before a fundamental interior and exterior renovation followed between 1990 and 1995.
