World Wrestling Championships 1954

The 1954 Wrestling World Championships took place in Tokyo from May 22nd to 25th, 1954 . The wrestlers were divided into eight weight classes. In contrast to 1953 , the wrestling was not in the Greco-Roman but in the free style .

Antonsson lost the decisive fight against the 1952 Olympic champion from Georgia, Arsen Mekokishvili. Mekokishvili became world champion for the first time at the age of 42.
