World Wrestling Championships 1954
The 1954 Wrestling World Championships took place in Tokyo from May 22nd to 25th, 1954 . The wrestlers were divided into eight weight classes. In contrast to 1953 , the wrestling was not in the Greco-Roman but in the free style .

Antonsson's winning streak at international championships broke for the first time in six years. Antonsson lost the decisive fight against the 1952 Olympic champion from Georgia, Arsen Mekokishvili. Mekokishvili became world champion for the first time at the age of 42.
