World Wrestling Championships 1986
The World Wrestling Championships 1986 took place from October 19 to 26, 1986 in Budapest . It was wrestled in both Greco-Roman and free styles . The wrestlers were divided into ten weight classes. In addition to the competitions for men, a demonstration tournament for women was held. The attempt led to the introduction of the women's world championships a year later.
Greco-Roman
The Greco-Roman style competitions took place from October 23 to 26, 1986. In the final of the -82 kg class, Bogdan Daras from Poland and Tibor Komáromi from Hungary were disqualified after 4:58 minutes of fighting time, as neither of them managed to score. Both initially received silver. In 1987 the FILA revised this decision, whereupon both wrestlers were declared world champions.

The freestyle competitions took place from October 19-22, 1986. Of the Soviet wrestlers who started, only Vladimir Toguzov missed a medal in sixth place in the -52 kg weight category.
