Volodymyr Tajmurasowytsch Tohusow (born August 31, 1966 in Potsdam , GDR ) is a former Soviet and Ukrainian wrestler . He was twice European champion and won at the 1988 Olympics , a bronze medal in free style in the flyweight .

Career

Volodymyr Tohusow began wrestling as a teenager in 1981. At that time he lived in North Ossetia and became a member of the Dynamo Ordzhonikidze sports club (now Vladikavkaz ). In Ukraine he started for Champion Kiev . His coach there was Boris Savlochow. He concentrated entirely on the free style and always wrestled or wrestled in flyweight (bantamweight since 2002). In his international wrestling career, which lasted until 1996, he started until 1991 for the Soviet Union , in 1992 for the CIS and since 1993 for the Ukraine. After 1996 he went to Germany and wrestled first for KSV Wiesental , then for AC Goldbach and since 2002 for KSV Köllerbach . He now also has German citizenship and was still in the Köllerbach Bundesliga team in the 2010/11 season at the age of 44. How strong he still is despite his age, he proved in January 2010 when he defeated the internationally successful German champion Marcel Ewald on points. On October 9, 2010, he lost in the revenge against Marcel Ewald just 2: 3 rounds. In 2007, at the age of 41, he took part again in the Ukrainian championships and came in third place after defeating Geworg Margarjan and losing to Volodimir Dubovoi .

At the beginning of his international wrestling career, Wolodymyr Tohusow finished 2nd at the 1985 Junior World Championships in Colorado Springs in flyweight behind the Bulgarian Ivan Zonow . In 1986 he was used by the Soviet Wrestling Federation at the World Championships in Budapest , but only reached 6th place there. At the next start he won the European Championship silver medal at the European Championships in Veliko Tarnovo / Bulgaria . In the final, however, he had to accept a clear 4:11 point defeat against Valentin Jordanow from Bulgaria. Jordanow became in the further course of the career the main competitor of Volodymyr Tohusow, on which he failed again and again. It was the same at the 1987 World Cup in Clermont-Ferrand . Vladimir Toguzov lost there in the semifinals against Jordanov and finished 4th at this World Cup.

In 1988 Volodymyr Tohusow was again Vice European Champion in Manchester . In the final he was defeated again against Valentin Jordanow. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he was able to place himself in front of Jordanow, who only finished 8th. The gold medal went to the Japanese Mitsuru Sato ahead of Šaban Trstena from Yugoslavia . Volodymyr Toguzov won the bronze medal.

At the European Wrestling Championships in 1989 he was not at the start. At the World Championships in Martigny / Switzerland he faced Valentin Jordanow again in the final battle and clearly lost this fight with 1: 7 on points. However, winning the runner-up world title was his greatest international success up to that point. In 1990 he was again Vice European Champion in Poznan . In the final he lost it against Šaban Trstena from Yugoslavia . At the 1991 European Championships in Stuttgart , Wolodymyr Tohusow won his first international title. He became European champion and defeated Stanislaw Kaczmarek from Germany just on points in the final . In 1991 he won a medal at the World Championships in Varna . He lost the semi-finals again to Valentin Jordanow, but this defeat was relatively close with 6: 9 points and shows that the fight was pretty even.

In 1992 he competed for the CIS at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . After a defeat in his first fight against Valentin Jordanow, he still won against Shane Stannett from Australia , but this victory only brought him to 11th place. Since 1993 Volodymyr Tohusow started for Ukraine. At the international championships this year, he was not used, but Michail Kuschnir .

In 1994 he took part in the World Cup in Istanbul . But he only reached 11th place there. Because of the poor sources of information from those years, it is not known who he lost to, which resulted in his early departure. In 1995 Mikhail Kuschnir again represented the Ukrainian colors. At the European Championships in Budapest in 1996 , Volodymyr Tohusow won the title for the second time. In the semifinals he defeated Namig Abdullajew from Azerbaijan with 3: 1 points and in the final he won over Ivan Zonow from Bulgaria with 5: 3 points. At the end of his international career, he took part in the Olympic Games again in 1996 . In Atlanta he only managed one victory over Omar Kedjaour from Algeria . He lost against Maulen Mamirow from Kazakhstan and against Chechenol Mongush from Russia and was therefore only 10th.
