Kyle Andrew Walker (born May 28, 1990 in Sheffield ) is an English football player who is under contract with Manchester City and plays for the English national team.

Career

Sheffield United

Kyle Walker, who has a Jamaican father and an English mother, joined Sheffield United's youth academy in 1997, at the age of seven, and got a regular place on the reserve team in 2008.

In November 2008 he was loaned out to Northampton Town for a month to gain some gaming experience. On November 15, he played his first league game against Oldham Athletic . After the loan period of just one month had ended, both clubs agreed to extend it to January 2009, so he came to nine league games by the end of the loan period before returning to Sheffield United .

After his return, he completed his first game against Leyton Orient on January 13, 2009 in the third round of the FA Cup . After the "Blades" were unavailable due to unfortunate injuries, Walker got the chance to be on the starting line-up in his very first league game, on April 25th against Swansea City . After two exceptionally good performances in the league, he kept his regular place at the end of the season on the playoff games, in which you played against Preston North End and finally against Burnley FC . His commitment makes him the youngest Sheffield United player to ever play at Wembley .

Tottenham Hotspur

In July 2009, he left his hometown club with teammate Kyle Naughton and moved with him to Tottenham Hotspur . He made a free transfer, but it was agreed by both sides that Walker would be loaned to his old club. There he built on the playoff performances and completed 26 games on the right side of the defense by the end of the loan. Shortly before the end of the winter transfer window, Walker was recalled by Tottenham after having loaned out defender Alan Hutton to Sunderland AFC on the same day . However, he came through this recall on March 28, 2010 in the 2-0 victory over Portsmouth FC to his first Premier League game ever. On September 13, 2010, he signed a one-month loan deal with the Queens Park Rangers , who were looking for a defender due to their injury problems. Walker quickly became a fan favorite due to his good performances, so the loan period was extended to January 3, 2011.

On January 6, 2011, Kyle Walker was loaned to Aston Villa through the end of the 2010/11 season .

In April 2012, Walker was voted Young Professional of the Year in England by the professional representative PFA (Professional Footballers Association). On May 3, 2012, Tottenham Hotspur announced that it had extended its contract to June 30, 2017.

Manchester City

Walker moved to Manchester City in June 2017. The transfer fee was 56.7 million euros, making him the most expensive defensive player of all time. On the fourth match day of the group stage of the 2019/20 Champions League season , Walker was used as goalkeeper in the game against Atalanta Bergamo for ten minutes plus stoppage time. He remained without conceding a goal. Previously, the goalkeeper Ederson had to be replaced due to injury by Claudio Bravo , who in turn received the red card .

In the national team

Before Walker even played a league game, he was nominated for the England U-19 national team in February 2009, where he made his debut on February 10 in the 3-0 defeat by Spain's U-19s. He played a total of seven international matches for the U-19s. A little more than a year later, on March 3, 2010, he made his U-21 international debut, but this game was also lost, with 1: 2 against Greece .

On November 15, 2011, Walker made his debut in a friendly against Sweden (1-0) for England's senior team .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in England's squad. He was in the starting line-up in three of the four tournament games, but only failed once in the third group game against Slovakia . In the second round, the team was eliminated against Iceland .
