Thomas Kevin Beattie (born December 18, 1953 in Carlisle , England - † September 16, 2018 ) was an English football player . He spent his most successful time at Ipswich Town , with whom he won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981 . Between 1975 and 1977 he played nine international matches (one goal) for the English national team.

Player career

Ipswich Town

Kevin Beattie started his playing career in 1972 at Ipswich Town. In the first season 1972/73 he was used in 38 league games and scored 5 goals. With the team coached by Bobby Robson , he won the FA Cup in 1978 by beating Arsenal 1-0 . In the Football League First Division 1980/81 he and his team secured the runner-up behind Aston Villa and also won the 1980/81 UEFA Cup . Ipswich had defeated the Dutch representative AZ Alkmaar 3-0 and 2-4 in the final. Kevin Beattie missed these finals after breaking his arm in the FA Cup semi-finals against Manchester City .

In the feature film Escape or Victory (1981) by John Huston about a soccer game in Paris during the Second World War , he doubled the British actor Michael Caine in the game scenes . The Beattie, plagued by numerous injuries, ended his career at Ipswich Town in 1982 at the age of only 28. In the following years he came to a few missions for Colchester United , Middlesbrough FC and Sandvikens IF before he finally ended his playing career.

English national football team

Beattie made his debut in the English national team on April 16, 1975 in qualifying for the European Championship in 1976 with a 5-0 home win over Cyprus . A good month later, he scored the first and only goal of his international career in an international match against Scotland .
