Craig Douglas Bellamy (born July 13, 1979 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh football coach and former player.

Career

The fast offensive all-rounder began his career in 1996 at Norwich City , where he stayed until 2000. In the 2000/01 season he played for Coventry City , from 2001 to 2004 for Newcastle United . After a public argument with manager Graeme Souness , he was loaned to Celtic Glasgow in January 2005 for the second half of the season in Scotland . In the 2005/06 season, Bellamy played for the Blackburn Rovers . Bellamy had a release clause in his contract that allowed him to switch to an offer from a Champions League participant for nine million euros. He took up this clause on June 22, 2006 and moved to the English record champions FC Liverpool .

In July 2007 Bellamy was transferred to West Ham United for 11.8 million euros . He stayed there for a year and a half until he moved to Manchester City on January 19, 2009 for € 15.5 million . In August 2010, Bellamy was awarded to the Welsh club Cardiff City in the Football League Championship . On August 31, 2011, Liverpool signed Bellamy. He signed a two-year contract and received jersey number 39. After just one season, he now moved permanently to Cardiff City, his hometown in Wales. He ended his career there in May 2014.

Bellamy played 78 times for the Welsh national football team and scored 19 goals.

Lack of discipline

He caused a stir in the run-up to the Champions League game against FC Barcelona in the 2007 round of 16 when he allegedly attacked his teammate John Arne Riise with a golf club at the training camp in Portugal . Curiously, it was the two who made the 2-1 victory over FC Barcelona possible with their goals. As a nod to the incident, Bellamy mimicked a golf swing from a tee after his 1-1 equalizer.

Even during his time at Newcastle United , he drew attention to himself with undisciplined behavior. He once threw a chair on his head for coach John Carver , team manager Graeme Souness suspended him after his refusal to play in right midfield and star striker Alan Shearer threatened after Bellamy's move to Blackburn: “I'll cut his head off if he ever tries Newcastle returns. "

At the city derby Manchester City against Manchester United in September 2009, Bellamy caused a sensation when he touched a Manchester United supporter who had run onto the field in the closing stages of the game after he was overwhelmed by the police. The police then started investigations against both the fan and Bellamy.

Trainer

After the end of his active career, Bellamy joined Cardiff City in December 2016 as head of the youth department. After allegations of bullying were raised against him by the parents of a youth player, he resigned from this task in early 2019. The association initiated an internal investigation.

On July 1, 2019, he moved to the Belgian first division club RSC Anderlecht as coach of the reserve team. He also plays with the old men at SK Londerzell.
