Beginnings
At the age of nine, Jack Wilshere joined the youth division of Arsenal in 2001. There he not only became captain of the club's U-16 team, but also played in the U-18 team in 2007 as a 15-year-old. Wilshere took part in the Champions Youth Cup in the summer of 2007 and then academy coach Steve Bould promoted him permanently to the U-18s with a start. He drew further attention when he scored three goals for a 7-1 win against the U-18s of Watford FC . At the end of the season he won Group A of the Academy Championship with Arsenal.
Before that, in February 2008 he made his debut for the second senior team ("Arsenal Reserves") against Reading FC and scored the only goal to win 1-0. In the spring of 2008, Wilshere took part with the U-16 selection of Arsenal FC at the “Atalanta Cup”, ultimately won this tournament with a victory on penalties against Juventus Turin and was voted best player.
Arsenal FC
During the preparation for the 2008/09 season Wilshere completed several games for the first team of Arsenal, including most notably at the club's Emirates Cup against prominent opponents Juventus Turin and Real Madrid . Head coach Arsène Wenger was impressed by the appearance of some young talents during the tournament and later revealed Wilshere's promotion to the professional squad. There he took over the jersey with the number 19, which had previously been worn by Gilberto Silva . On September 13, 2008 Wilshere played his first Premier League game against Blackburn Rovers and became Arsenal's youngest player in the 84th minute as a substitute for Robin van Persie ( Gerry Ward's record had lasted 55 years). Ten days later, he scored the 6: 0 win over Sheffield United in the Carling Cup his first competitive goal for the first team of Arsenal FC.
In 2010 he was loaned to league rivals Bolton Wanderers . He has been back at Arsenal since the 2010/11 season. In the 2010/11 season , Wilshere became the second defensive midfielder alongside Alexandre Song from December 2010 to become a regular with the Gunners . Wilshere scored his debut goal in the Premier League on November 27 against Aston Villa to make it 4-2 for Arsenal. In total, Wilshere played 35 games in the Premier League, including 31 as a regular and 16 over 90 minutes. Wilshere was absent at the beginning of the 2011/12 season due to an ankle injury that he finally had surgery in September. As a result, he was initially out for the entire first half of the season and when the injury again led to massive complaints after the turn of the year, the season for Wilshere ended for good. He has only been back in the first team since September 2012.
In the 3: 6 defeat in the 2013/14 season against Manchester City, Wilshere let himself be carried away to the middle finger against a City fan, whereupon he was banned for two games.
In 2018, Wilshere announced that he would not renew his expiring contract with Arsenal.
West Ham United
For the 2018/19 season Wilshere moved to West Ham United on a free transfer . He signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2021.
National team
Wilshere played through various England junior teams. In 2006, at the age of 15, he played for the U-17 of the national team for the first time . In 2009 he was in the squad of the team that took part in the U-17 Euro in Germany. However, the team did not get beyond the preliminary round. At the end of the tournament he was named one of the 10 upcoming stars of football alongside players such as Christopher Buchtmann , Lennart Thy and Patrick ter Mate . 2010 Wilshere made his debut in the U-21 dress . In the same year, on August 11, 2010, he played for the first time under senior national coach Fabio Capello for England's senior eleven . In the game against Hungary , the offensive talent came on in the 83rd minute for Steven Gerrard . On February 2, 2011, he played his first game, against Denmark (2-1) from the start, but was substituted after the first half. Due to a protracted injury to his ankle, Wilshere was unable to take part in the 2012 European Football Championship in Poland and Ukraine . His club coach Arsène Wenger had previously ruled out the midfielder's use at the European Championships.
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the English squad . As a supplementary player, he was substituted on for the first time in the opening game against Russia. He was allowed to play the third group game against Slovakia from the start, when the qualification for the round of 16 was already certain. He was eventually brought into play against Iceland at halftime when England were 2-1 back. The team lost anyway and was eliminated.
