Gonçalo Bento Soares Cardoso (born October 21, 2000 in Marco de Canaveses ) is a Portuguese football player who has been under contract with the English first division club West Ham United since August 2019 . The center- back has been a Portuguese U20 international since September 2019 .

Career

Gonçalo Cardoso began playing football at the age of eight with the amateur club AD Marco 09 in his hometown of Marco de Canaveses . In 2012 he joined the youth team at FC Penafiel before joining the Boavista Porto youth academy five years later . On October 7, 2018, he made his debut for the Boavista men's team in a 1-0 home win against Desportivo Aves . By the end of the 2018/19 season he had made 15 league appearances.

On August 6, 2019 Cardoso moved to the English first division club West Ham United , where he signed a five-year contract.

National team

He made his debut for the Portuguese U-19 national team on November 17, 2018 in a 5-1 away win against Armenia . Cardoso has been the Portuguese U20 international since September 2019 .
