Pablo Javier Zabaleta Girod (born January 16, 1985 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine football player who is under contract with the English first division club West Ham United .

Career

CA San Lorenzo

At the age of twelve he signed a contract with the Argentine top club CA San Lorenzo , where he went through all the youth teams. First he was set up as a defensive midfielder, before moving to right midfield and the right defensive side.

Espanyol Barcelona

In 2005 he moved to a European club with Espanyol Barcelona , after he had previously captained the Argentina U-20 national team at the 2005 World Cup.

With Espanyol he achieved a great success in his first season by winning the Copa del Rey . The following year was also very successful. Only in the final of the UEFA Cup did Espanyol lose on penalties to compatriots from Sevilla FC .

Manchester City

For the 2008/09 season he moved to Manchester City in the Premier League for around 8.7 million euros . Zabaleta played his 200th game for the Manchester club on January 16, 2016.

West Ham United

For the 2017/18 season, Zabaleta leaves Manchester City and joins league rivals West Ham United , with whom he signed a two-year contract, on a free transfer.

Zabaleta has a Spanish passport, although he continues to compete internationally for Argentina.

National team

Pablo Zabaleta took part in both the 2003 and 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup , winning with Argentina in 2005 . So far, he has played 48 international matches for the senior national team.

In 2008 he won the Olympic football tournament in Beijing with the Argentinian selection . In 2014 he was runner-up with the Argentine national team.
