Vondie Curtis-Hall (born September 30, 1950 in Detroit ) is an American actor , director and screenwriter .

Life and accomplishments

Curtis-Hall made his debut in two films from 1988: In the action film Blue Jean Cop with Peter Weller and Sam Elliott only his voice could be heard, in the comedy The Prince of Zamunda he appeared alongside Eddie Murphy . He played one of the bigger roles in the television thriller In the Violence of a Stranger (1991). In the series Emergency Room - The emergency room he played two different supporting roles; for the former role, a suicidal transvestite , he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 1995 . From 1995 to 1999 he starred in the television series Chicago Hope and was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award as a cast member in 1997 and 1998 .

Curtis-Hall married actress Kasi Lemmons in 1995 , who later also became a director and screenwriter. As a supporting actor in his wife 's directorial debut film Eve's Bayou (1997), he was nominated for the Image Award in 1998 . For the role in the made-for-TV biopic Don King: Only in America (1997) he received in 1998 the Golden Satellite Award . In 1997, the crime comedy Gridlock'd was released. with which he made his debut as a director and screenwriter. As the director of the musical drama Glitter - Shine of a Star (2001), he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 2002. This was followed in 2006 by a nomination for the Black Movie Award for directing the action thriller Waist Deep (2006) with Meagan Good and Larenz Tate .
