Kasi Lemmons

Kasi Lemmons (born February 24, 1961 in St. Louis , Missouri ; born Karen Lemmons ) is an American actress , director and screenwriter .

Life and accomplishments

Lemmons is the daughter of a biology teacher and a psychotherapist. She made her debut as an actress in the 1979 television film The Eleventh Victim. In the horror comedy Vampire's Kiss (1989), she appeared in a larger role on the side of Nicolas Cage , María Conchita Alonso and Jennifer Beals . In the thriller The Silence of the Lambs (1991) she played the role of Ardelia Mapp , a student at the FBI Academy who was friends with Clarice Starling ( Jodie Foster ) . One of the bigger roles she played on the side of Virginia Madsen in the horror filmCandyman's Curse (1992).

Lemmons made her debut as a director and screenwriter in the drama Eve's Bayou (1997) starring Meagan Good and Samuel L. Jackson . For this work she received the National Board of Review Award for Best Directing Debutante in 1997 and the Independent Spirit Award and the Black Film Award of the Acapulco Black Film Festival in 1998 . In 2001 she was a jury member for the Sundance Film Festival . As the director of the biopic Talk to Me with Don Cheadle in the lead role, she was named best director at the Image Awards 2008 .

Lemmons has been married to actor Vondie Curtis-Hall since 1995 . She has two children.
