Larenz Tate

Larenz Tate (born September 8, 1975 in Chicago ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Larenz Tate grew up as the youngest of three brothers; his older brothers are also actors. The family moved to Bell Gardens , California , where Tate and his brothers studied acting at the Inner City Cultural Center .

The actor made his debut in an episode of the television series Unknown Dimensions (The Twilight Zone) from 1985. In the television drama The Women of Brewster Place (1989), he appeared on the side of Oprah Winfrey in a minor supporting role. For his appearances in the television series, he was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1992 and 1993 . His most famous role was that of "O-Dog" from the 1993 movie Menace II Society .

He took on the leading role in the film drama Love Jones (1997), for which he was nominated in 1998 for the Image Award and for the Black Film Award . In the biopic Why Do Fools Fall in Love - The Roots of Rock'n'Roll (1998) he played the musician Frankie Lymon , his wives Zola Taylor ( Halle Berry ), Elizabeth Waters ( Vivica A. Fox ) and Emira to help him Eagle ( Lela Rochon ) arguing.

As a cast member of the drama LA Crash (2004), Tate was nominated for the Gotham Award in 2005 and received the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Black Reel Award in 2006. He was also nominated for the 2006 Image Award . For his role in the biography Ray (2004) he was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2005 - together with Jamie Foxx , Regina King , Kerry Washington and the other cast members.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Tate has been married to actress Tomasina Parrott since 2006 and has one child.
