Kerry Washington Marisa (* 31 January 1977 in New York City ) is an American actress . She is best known for her roles as Ray Charles ' wife, Della Bea Robinson, in the 2004 film Ray , as Idi Amin's wife, Kay in The Last King of Scotland, and as Alicia Masters in the two films Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). She has also appeared in the independent films Our Song and Dead Girl . In 2012 she appeared as Broomhilda of Shaft, Django's wife, in Quentin Tarantino's film Django Unchained . She also played the lead role of Olivia Pope in the television series Scandal from 2012 to 2018 .

Life

Washington was born in the Bronx , New York City, to Valerie, a professor and educational advisor, and Earl Washington, a real estate agent. Her mother is of Jamaican origin. In 1998 she finished her theater studies at George Washington University . She made her first appearances as an actress in 1994 and 1996, and since 2000 she has appeared in more than 45 film and television productions. She was engaged to David Moscow from October 2004 to March 2007 .

In June 2013, Kerry Washington married professional footballer Nnamdi Asomugha . In April 2014, the couple's daughter was born. Their second child, a boy, was born in October 2016.
