I Think I Love My Wife (original title: I Think I Love My Wife ) is an American film comedy of Chris Rock from the year 2007 .

action

Richard Cooper is happily married and also very successful at work. He is perfectly satisfied with his life and lives in the suburbs of New York with his lovely wife Brenda, a teacher, and their two young children. There is only one problem with his marriage: Their sex life is stagnating, which makes Richard frustrated and gradually hungry for sex. This leads to the fact that on boring days in the office he gives space to his fantasies and thinks about other women. Still, he doesn't betray Brenda. However, when one day he meets his old friend Nikki, he has doubts whether he can actually control himself. Nikki claims he just wants friendship, but starts showing up at his Manhattan finance office all the time, supposedly to talk or have lunch. Richard's boss and his colleagues notice this and there is talk. Gradually, Nikki tries to seduce Richard openly and he doesn't know how to behave. At first he only goes on an outing with her. They met Nikki's friend, who clearly recognized the situation and had a fight with Richard. As a result, Richard is late for an important sales presentation, which results in the loss of a lucrative contract.

Richard and Brenda now want to move to Los Angeles for professional reasons. Nikki therefore asks Richard into her apartment so that they can say “real goodbye”. When he reaches Nikki's apartment, he finds her in her bathroom in her underwear. Richard is about to succumb to Nikki's powers of seduction, but he realizes in time what his family means to him. He might lose his wife and children with this adventure and he definitely doesn't want to risk that. On the spur of the moment, he leaves Nikki's apartment and returns home. He surprises his wife and is determined to hold on to the relationship and work to improve it. Richard and Brenda promise each other that everything will be fine.

Reviews

Ruthe Stein wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of March 16, 2007 that the film was "inconsistent" but evoked "emotional resonance" that most films about relationships lack. The film was inspired by the French film Die Liebe am Afternoon ( L'Amour l'après-midi ) by Éric Rohmer from 1972, which is a difficult template.

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was one of the best remakes in recent years. Chris Rock adapted the basic structure of the plot and some ideas, but adapted the film to the "new audience" in a different cultural circle. The film takes time to develop the three main characters beyond the stereotypes. What the film lacks in depth and philosophical aspiration is made up for by humor and "humanization".

The lexicon of the international film judges: "Superficially free-spirited, romantically meant comedy, which abuses with unsympathetic characters, dramaturgical inadequacies and an arch-conservative attitude, only to sing an uptight song of praise for a bit of sex in marriage."
