Steven "Steve" Vincent Buscemi (preferred pronunciation of the actor himself [bʉˈsɛmi] , Italian [buʃˈʃɛːmi] ; born December 13, 1957 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American film and stage actor and director . With his unmistakable physiognomy and facial expressions , he is preferred as an actor for neurotic and paranoid characters and loser types. In the film Fargo , for example , the Carl Showalter he played is repeatedly described as "somehow weird".

Life

After graduating from Valley Stream High School in Nassau County on Long Island , Steve Buscemi began working as a movers, ice cream vendor, and firefighter. Buscemi is a two-time Independent Spirit Award winner for his roles in Reservoir Dogs and Ghost World . For the latter, he was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 2002. In 2009 he was nominated for the German Film Prize for his supporting role in John Rabe .

As a leading actor in the television series Boardwalk Empire , he received a Golden Globe in 2011 and a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2011 and 2012 ; In 2011 and 2012 he was nominated for an Emmy Award.
