German Film Award 2009
The 59th presentation of the German Film Prize , also known as Lola , took place on April 24, 2009 in the Berlin Palais am Funkturm . For the fifth time, this most important German film prize was awarded in 15 categories by the German Film Academy, founded in 2003 . With a total of 2.8 million euros, it is the most highly endowed cultural award in Germany. The award ceremony , which was broadcast on TV by ZDF, was moderated by Barbara Schöneberger .
The nominations were announced on March 13, 2009 in the ZDF morning magazine by the actress Jasmin Tabatabai , board member of the German Film Academy, and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media Bernd Neumann . A jury previously selected 25 films for the categories of Best Film , Best Children's and Youth Film and Best Documentary , from which the 1000 members of the Academy then selected the nominations. A total of 90 German films were registered with the academy.
With a total of seven nominations, the film John Rabe received the most nominations and, with four awards, also won the most. Florian Gallenberger's drama was awarded the film prize in gold for best film and thus prevailed against Caroline Link's drama Im Winter ein Jahr (film prize in silver) and Andreas Dresen's Wolke Neun (film prize in bronze). Cloud Neun (director and leading actress Ursula Werner ), Özgür Yıldırım's gangster film Chiko (screenplay and editor) and Philipp Stölzl's mountaineering drama Nordwand received two awards each . In contrast, Uli Edel's Der Baader Meinhof Complex did not receive an award. The RAF film had competed in vain for the prize for the best foreign language film at this year's Academy Awards and was nominated for a Lola in four categories .
The humorist Loriot was awarded the honorary prize for outstanding services to German film . Although Loriot had only made two feature films as a director, the jury believed that these were the highlights of German comedy production. With Oedipussi and Pappa ante portas, Loriot set standards that younger generations of comedians would have to use as a guide.
