The ZDF morning magazine ( spelling : zdf mo: ma ) is a morning news and information program produced by ZDF every two weeks . It has existed since 1992 and is broadcast live alternately with the ARD morning magazine.

Broadcast date and moderators

Since 2016, ZDF has been responsible for the production of the morning magazine broadcast on both channels in the odd calendar weeks as part of the joint morning program of ARD and ZDF , as well as the digital ARD offer tagesschau24 . The broadcast takes place Monday to Friday between 5:30 and 9:00 a.m. The moderation is divided into two time blocks, the morning shift from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and the late shift from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Until 2010 and since April 2018, the morning track will be presented by only one moderator. From 2011 to March 2018, double moderation was also used here. The last 30 minutes will be broadcast live with the audience in the mo: ma café in Berlin , where u. a. a live band appears and well-known personalities are introduced and interviewed .

Until 1995 the program was only broadcast between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The morning magazine has been broadcasting from 5:30 a.m. since August 28, 1995.

Program content

The ZDF morning magazine reports on current and profound topics from politics, economy and society. In addition, a sports block provides information on current sports topics. There are also various interviews on current political and economic issues. In contrast to the ARD Morgenmagazin, interviews from Berlin do not need to be posted there, as the ZDF Morgenmagazin has been produced from Studio 1 in the Berlin studio of the ZDF in Zollernhof since March 20, 2000 . Before that, the broadcast came from the studios of the Berliner Union Film in Berlin-Tempelhof .

The program is interrupted every full and half hour by the short message block today Xpress with a length of two and a half minutes, which is recorded by the heute editorial team from Mainz . The sports block is traditionally located immediately before the news block, the weather forecast immediately after it.

A special feature compared to the ARD morning magazine is the last half hour. This has been broadcast live since September 2003 from the Zollernhof's atrium, the so-called “mo: ma-Café”, where the audience is present. An average of 8,000 viewers visit the show every year. Here the viewers were interactively involved in the program through a guessing game in which the winner receives two coffee mugs. From March 2000 to June 2017 the title was “right or wrong?”, Until 2008 there was an additional round of it. The game was previously called "How was it?" A total of around 10,000 cups were raffled.

Andreas Wunn has been the editorial manager since December 1, 2016 . In April 2018, this was incorporated into the new “Tagesmagazine Berlin” editorial team, which is responsible for both the morning magazine and the ZDF midday magazine . Its editor-in-chief is Wunn.

Studio

The previous studio set was used for nine years until the beginning of September 2020. A newly designed studio set will be broadcast from September 7, 2020. The new design is reminiscent of a sunrise with the "O" from the moma lettering interpreting the rising sun. The moma café is also being redesigned with a lounge look. A higher six-digit amount was invested in the innovations.
