Eckart Gaddum

Eckart Gaddum (* 1960 in Neuwied ) is a German journalist. Since 2008 he has headed the main editorial department for new media at ZDF .

Life

Gaddum, son of the former Rhineland-Palatinate finance minister and Bundesbank vice-president Johann Wilhelm Gaddum , completed an internship at the Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz from 1981 to 1983 and then began studying political science, law and history at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , which he Graduated in 1988. From 1989 to 1993 he worked on his dissertation on German European policy in the 1980s .

Since 1987 he has worked as a freelancer for the heute journal , and in 1993 Gaddum became a reporter and final editor of this news program. After working as a speaker for the then ZDF editor-in-chief Klaus Bresser , he became head of the Thuringia state studio in 1995, which he remained until 1997. Then he was head of the ZDF main editorial department for news until 2000. From 2001 to 2002 as a foreign correspondent in Paris , Gaddum took over the management of the ZDF morning magazine in 2003 .

On June 1, 2008, Gaddum took over the management of the main editorial department for new media , which oversees the ZDFmediathek and is responsible for controlling the broadcaster's online processes. In 2009 he and two other ZDF editors were awarded the media prize of the German Bundestag for the online documentary Die Berlin-Bilanz . In February 2017, he was considered a candidate for the successor to Deutschlandradio director Willi Steul . The board of directors of Deutschlandradio, however, chose the previous MDR editor-in-chief Stefan Raue as a candidate.
