Johann Wilhelm Gaddum (born June 18, 1930 in Berlin ) is a German entrepreneur and former politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Gaddum first completed a commercial apprenticeship, which he completed with the examination of a commercial assistant. In 1951 he began studying economics and social sciences at the University of Cologne , which he finished in 1954 with a degree in business administration. From 1955 he was managing director of a mineral oil wholesaler in Neuwied , which he managed from 1967 to 1971 as the owner.

Gaddum was President of the State Central Bank in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1985/86 . He then moved to the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbank , from 1993 to 1998 as its vice-president.

MP

Gaddum was a member of the council of the city ​​of Neuwied from 1956 to 1971 and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there from 1960 to 1971. He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1963 to 1983. Here he was also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from 1969 to 1971.

Public offices

On May 18, 1971, Gaddum was appointed finance minister in the government of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Helmut Kohl and, since 1976, has also been a member of the subsequent government led by Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel . On June 12, 1981, he moved to the head of the Ministry of Federal Affairs in the course of a cabinet reshuffle. After his appointment as President of the State Central Bank, he left the government on May 23, 1985. He was Vice President of the Deutsche Bundesbank .
