Kurt Böckmann

Kurt Böckmann (born December 16, 1929 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † September 21, 2008 there ) was a German engineer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school from 1936 to 1941 and graduating from high school in 1950 at the natural science high school in Ludwigshafen, Böckmann completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter, which he completed in 1953 with the skilled worker examination. From 1953 to 1957, he continued his education at the mechanical engineering college in Mannheim , where he passed the engineering exam. He then worked as a trainer in the Ludwigshafen company Gebr. Giulini GmbH until 1976. There he was head of vocational training and a long-term works council member.

Political party

Böckmann joined the CDU in 1953 and was chairman of the CDU district association Ludwigshafen-Stadt from 1963 to 1974. Within the party, he is considered one of Helmut Kohl's closest companions .

From 1966 to 1969 he was state chairman of the Christian Democratic Workers' Union (CDA) in Rhineland-Palatinate .

MP

Böckmann was a council member of the city of Ludwigshafen from 1956 to 1976. He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1967 to 1994 and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from January 1, 1973 to 1976. In 1974 he was a member of the 6th Federal Assembly .

Public offices

On December 2, 1976, Böckmann was appointed Minister of the Interior in the government of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel . On May 18, 1979, he also took over the management of the sports department. During his tenure, he established the country's partnership with Rwanda . After the formation of a coalition of the CDU and FDP , he left the state government on June 23, 1987 and was replaced as Interior Minister by Rudi Geil .

In addition, he was a member of the supervisory board of Neue Heimat Südwest , the administrative board of the Landesbank, LPR , the broadcasting council of SWF , the supervisory board of GAG Ludwigshafen and IG Chemie .
