Alois Zimmer (born May 18, 1896 in Weiten ; † April 11, 1973 in Trier ) was a German lawyer , administrative officer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending primary school and graduating from high school in Trier, Zimmer took part in the First World War as a soldier from 1914 to 1918 . He studied law and political science in Bonn , graduated as Dr. jur. and then entered the Prussian administrative service. In 1924/25 he was a government assessor in Siegburg and from 1925 to 1928 in the same position in Marienwerder . From 1933 to 1938 he worked for the district president in Trier and from 1938 to 1942 and from 1945 to 1947 he worked as an estate manager in Grünhaus . Since 1942 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier . He was most recently taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1945.

He was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KStV Ketteler Mainz.

Political party

In 1945 Zimmer was one of the founders of the CDP and co-founder of the CDU in Trier and of the regional association of the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate . He had been chairman of the CDU district association in Trier since 1946 and was later elected deputy state chairman of the party. He was also a member of the CDU federal executive committee from 1950 .

Zimmer was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946/47 . He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1947 until his resignation on October 9, 1957 , where he was chairman of the agricultural policy committee from 1947 to 1950 and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from 1947 to 1951.

Zimmer was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1965. He represented the constituency of Trier in parliament and was deputy chairman of the interior committee from 1961 to 1965 . He was also a member of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union (WEU).

Public offices

Zimmer was district administrator for the Stuhm district from 1928 to 1933 . From 1947 to 1951 he served as regional president in Montabaur . After the formation of a Christian-liberal coalition, he was appointed Minister of the Interior and Social Affairs to the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Peter Altmeier on June 13, 1951 . Due to his election to the Bundestag, he left the government on October 15, 1957 and was replaced as Minister by Otto van Volxem .
