Ullrich Galle

Ullrich Galle (born July 11, 1948 in Watenstedt-Salzgitter ) is a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and graduating from high school in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt in 1967, Galle studied law at the universities of Göttingen and Mainz . He carried out various activities in the private sector and worked temporarily in the public service, including in local government and at the Deutsche Bundespost .

In addition to his professional activity, Galle was involved in the trade union and joined the ÖTV . He has been working full-time as a trade union secretary since February 1973, was initially deputy chairman from 1980 to 1988 and then chairman of the ÖTV district of Rhineland-Palatinate from 1988 to 1991 . Today he is a member of the ver.di union .

Public offices

From May 21, 1991 to October 26, 1994, Galle was Minister for Labor, Social Affairs, Family and Health in the government of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Rudolf Scharping . From January 1, 1995 to March 31, 2010 he was the ombudsman for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Since June 2007 he has also been President of the European Ombudsman Institute (EOI) based in Innsbruck.

Honors

Ullrich Galle was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2012 for his commitment to promoting international cooperation in the field of human rights, civil protection and ombudsman issues .
