Georg Gölter (born December 22, 1938 in Kaiserslautern ) is a former German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Georg Gölter was born on December 22, 1938 in Kaiserslautern. After graduation in 1958 at the ancient languages school in Kaiserslautern Gölter took a degree in history, political science and German philology at the Universities of Heidelberg, Tübingen and turn Heidelberg, which he in 1964 with the state examination for teachers at secondary schools, and in 1965 awarded the degree of Dr . phil. finished. He then entered the school service as a teacher. From 1965 to 1967 he worked as a grammar school teacher in Kaiserslautern, then worked until 1969 as a consultant in the Ministry of Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and was most recently promoted to senior student council.

Political party

Gölter has been a member of the CDU since 1958. He joined the Junge Union (JU) and was state chairman of the JU Rhineland-Palatinate from 1965 to 1971. From 1968 to 1977 he was chairman of the CDU district association Speyer . In addition, from 1975 to 1993 he was district chairman of the CDU Rheinhessen - Pfalz and a member of the state executive committee of the Rhineland-Palatinate Christian Democrats.

MP

Gölter was a council member of the city ​​of Speyer from 1964 to 1969 . He was elected to the German Bundestag in the Bundestag election in 1969 , where he represented the Neustadt-Speyer constituency. After his appointment as Minister of Social Affairs in Rhineland-Palatinate, he resigned from the Bundestag on July 8, 1977. From 1979 to 2006 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . From 1994 to 2006 he was Chairman of the Committee on Economics and Transport.

Public offices

On June 23, 1977, Gölter was appointed Minister for Social Affairs, Health and Sport to the government of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel . In May 1979, the ministry was transformed by assigning the sports department to the Ministry of the Interior and the environment department to the Ministry of Social Affairs.

In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, Gölter took over the management of the Ministry of Culture on June 12, 1981 and was also a member of the follow-up government headed by Prime Minister Carl-Ludwig Wagner . From 1985 he was spokesman for the Union-led countries in the Conference of Ministers of Education. In 1989/90 he was President of the Conference of Ministers of Education. After the CDU's defeat in the state elections in 1991, he left the government on May 21, 1991. The Ministry of Culture was then split into two different departments.

Honors

Gölter was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1978 and the Great Cross of Merit in 1989.

In 2007 he received the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .
