Josef Jochem

Josef Jochem (born March 24, 1922 in Wiesbach ; † June 20, 2000 ) was a German educator and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Jochem was born the son of a businessman. After attending primary school in Illingen and the humanistic grammar school in Exaten near Roermond , he initially did Reich labor service , then was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1941 to 1945 . He was made a lieutenant in the reserve and at the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the United States, from which he was released in 1945.

Jochem completed a teacher training seminar in Saarbrücken from 1945 to 1947 . From 1947 to 1948 he worked as a primary school teacher in Welschbach and Neunkirchen and from 1960 to 1965 as rector in Neunkirchen. From 1965 to 1975 he was a school councilor in Eppelborn and Ottweiler . He was also a member of educational and teacher associations.

Political party

Jochem joined the CDU in 1947 and was chairman of the CDU district association in Neunkirchen from 1973 to 1983.

MP

Jochem was a council member of the city of Neunkirchen and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there in the 1960s and 1970s. From 1975 to 1985 he was a member of the Saarland Landtag .

Public offices

After Werner Scherer resigned , Jochem was appointed Minister for Culture, Education and Sport on December 7, 1977 in the Saarland government led by Prime Minister Franz-Josef Röder . He was also a member of the follow-up government headed by Prime Minister Werner Zeyer and in 1979 served as President of the Permanent Conference of Education Ministers. On May 23, 1980, he resigned from the state government and was replaced as Minister of Culture by Wolfgang Knies .
