Karl Rauber

Karl Rauber (born April 29, 1952 in Güdesweiler ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1999 he was head of the Saarland State Chancellery and since 2004 Minister for Federal and European Affairs, before he became State Minister for Federal Affairs and Culture on November 10, 2009 alongside the management of the State Chancellery. With the departure of Prime Minister Müller from office and Karl Rauber retired at the end of August 9, 2011 from all government offices.

Profession and Politics

Rauber completed an apprenticeship as a banker in 1971 . In 1986 he took over the position of regional manager of the CDU Saar .

He is a member of the St. Wendel District Council (deputy parliamentary group chairman) and a member of the Oberthal district council (parliamentary group chairman). During the eleventh legislative period (1994-1999) Rauber was a member of the Saarland state parliament . He was re-elected in 1999 , but resigned his mandate after he was appointed State Secretary , Head of the State Chancellery and European Commissioner of the State Government on September 29, 1999 ; Günter Becker moved up for him .

Since the elections for the 13th Saarland state parliament in 2004, Rauber has again been represented in the state parliament. In addition to his position as Head of the State Chancellery, he also held the office of Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Müller II cabinet . In a special way he took on the further development of the greater Saar-Lor-Lux region . In the Müller III cabinet , Rauber was State Minister for Federal Affairs and Culture.

Rauber is a member of several supervisory boards, including Saarland-Sporttoto GmbH, the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site and Saarland Broadcasting Corporation .

Personal

Karl Rauber is Roman Catholic, married and has three children. He lives in Marpingen .

Awards - honors

Due to his services to the development of Franco-German relations, Rauber was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor ( Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur ) by the French President in October 2009 .

criticism

According to the Saarbrücker Zeitung of January 4, 2011, Karl Rauber is considered to be primarily responsible for the supporting financial structures of the controversial Gondwana Park - Das Praehistorium . The Saarland Court of Auditors warned that a total damage of 44 million euros could arise in the next 25 years. A committee of inquiry that was set up in the meantime came to a different assessment. The committee of inquiry largely allayed the concerns of the Court of Auditors, but also showed that the assessment of the project is primarily a political question.
