The Saarland Audit Office is a supreme state authority and is responsible for auditing the budget of the Saarland state government, ministries and state-owned companies. It is based in Saarbrücken . The members of the Court of Auditors enjoy judicial independence.

Legal bases

The Saarland Court of Audit was founded with the adoption of the Saarland Constitution on December 15, 1947. Its tasks were specified in 1971 in the "Law on the Saarland Audit Office" (in short: Audit Office Act, RHG), further tasks can also be found in the "Saarland Financial Regulation".

The main task of the Saarland Court of Audit is to audit the state's budget and economic management, including its special assets and operations. The Court of Auditors determines the scope itself and can also conduct an audit in response to information from third parties. In addition, he advises the state parliament, the state government and the ministries in relation to savings opportunities or the improvement of organizational processes. Once a year he also publishes the annual report.

The Saarland Court of Audit is headed by a President, who in turn is represented by a Vice President. He is supported in this by the presidential department. The test tasks are carried out by five test departments (S, I – IV); the department heads of the departments together with the president form the decision-making body.
