The State Audit Office of Schleswig-Holstein is a supreme state authority of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein and exercises financial supervision over the state government , the state ministries and all state companies. It is based in Kiel and the incumbent president is Gaby Schäfer. The LRH was founded in 1948 as the State Chamber of Accounts for the State of Schleswig-Holstein and received its current name in 1958.

Legal bases

The first legal basis for the establishment of the State Audit Office was the “Law on the Establishment of a State Audit Office for the State of Schleswig-Holstein” with effect from April 1, 1948. Financial control was thus passed from the British military government to the state government. A short time later, on December 13, 1949, it was determined that the Chamber is independent and that its members enjoy judicial independence.

On December 9, 1957, the "Law on the State Audit Office Schleswig-Holstein" was passed, which came into force on January 1, 1958 and changed the name to State Audit Office and specified the tasks again.

tasks

The State Audit Office of Schleswig-Holstein audits the budget and economic management of the state, i.e. the state government, the state ministries, all special funds and state-owned companies. In addition, it oversees the budgets of the public-law institutions, companies in which the state is a shareholder.

At the municipal level, the State Audit Office in Schleswig-Holstein audits the independent cities, districts and cities belonging to the district with more than 20,000 inhabitants and communities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, offices and special-purpose associations under special conditions.

organization

The Schleswig-Holstein State Audit Office is run by the President, who is assisted by a Presidential Chancellery. The examinations are carried out by five subordinate examination departments. A total of around 85 employees currently work at the State Audit Office.
