Ute Erdsiek-Rave (born January 2, 1947 in Heide / Holstein ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to July 2009 she was Minister of Education and from 2005 to July 2009 also Deputy Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1966, she first began studying German in Bochum and Kiel , but then switched to the Kiel University of Education. After passing the state examination , she worked as a teacher from 1972 to 1974 . Then she worked for three years in Stockholm , a. a. at the Goethe Institute . Since 1977 she has been working again in the school service of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Erdsiek-Rave is married to Klaus Rave and has one son.

politics

Ute Erdsiek-Rave has been a member of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein since 1969 . From 1983 to 1986 she was deputy state chairman of the working group of social democratic women . Until December 1987 she was a member of the district council of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district . Here she acted as chair of the school and culture committee. From 1987 to 2009 she was a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein . From 1988 to 1992 she was deputy chairwoman and from 1996 to 1998 chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group .

From 1992 to 1996 she was President of the State Parliament of Schleswig-Holstein.

Public offices

On October 28, 1998, she was appointed Minister for Education, Science, Research and Culture to the state government led by Prime Minister Heide Simonis . Since the unsuccessful re-election of Heide Simonis on March 17, 2005, she was only in office as a manager.

From April 27, 2005 to July 20, 2009, she was a member of the cabinet of the grand coalition led by Prime Minister Peter Harry Carstensen ( CDU ) as Minister for Education and Women and as Deputy Prime Minister.

After the break of the grand coalition, Erdsiek-Rave and all other SPD ministers were dismissed from their offices in the state government by Peter Harry Carstensen on July 20, 2009 at the end of July 21, 2009. She then announced her withdrawal from active politics.

Currently she is u. a. Chair of the “Inclusive Education” expert group of the German UNESCO Commission.
