Ekkehard Wienholtz

Ekkehard Wienholtz (born May 5, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German politician of the SPD . The lawyer was Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein from 1995 to 2000 .

Life and work

Ekkehard Wienholtz graduated from Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium Mannheim in 1958 and studied law and political science in Heidelberg and Freiburg . In 1963 he passed the first state examination in law and then studied political science in Bologna and completed his legal clerkship in Baden-Württemberg . He was also a research assistant at the Institute for Public Law at the University of Freiburg . In 1968 he was given a doctorate by Horst Ehmke with a thesis on constitutional law of the Federal Republic of Germany in Freiburg. jur. PhD. In 1969 he passed the second state examination in law and initially worked as a judge at the Waldshut District Court . In 1970 he became personal advisor and head of the office of the head of the Federal Chancellery, Horst Ehmke. From 1973 to 1984 he was a civil servant in the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology under Minister Ehmke and Hans Matthöfer . From 1985, under State Secretary Klaus Dieter Leister, he was head of the Law, Administration, Media Department in the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia . After the election victory of the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein in 1988, he belonged to the first state government of Björn Engholm as State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior under Hans Peter Bull . He remained so even after the state elections in 1992 and in the first state government of Heide Simonis . From January 1995 to March 2000 he was the successor to Hans-Peter Bull Minister of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein . He has been admitted to the bar since 2001 and works in a law firm in Kiel.

Wienholtz has been a member of the SPD since 1963. From 2001 to 2013, Wienholtz was honorary president of the Schleswig-Holstein State Sports Association . He was awarded the Schleswig-Holstein Order of Merit for his commitment to sport .
