Bruno Diekmann

Bruno Diekmann (born April 19, 1897 in Kiel ; † January 11, 1982 ibid) was a German politician ( SPD ) and Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein from 1949 to 1950 .

Life and work

After an apprenticeship as an electrician and attending engineering school, Diekmann worked as a telephone construction engineer at " Deutsche Werke AG " in Kiel until 1933 . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was initially placed in “ protective custody ”. After his release from prison he worked as a telecommunications technician. From 1939 he was head of the telephone exchange of the Naval Station East. In 1944 he was again imprisoned in the Neuengamme concentration camp . From 1951 he was a board member of "Deutsche Werke AG".

Political party

Diekmann had been a member of the SPD since 1919 and was a member of the local executive committee in Kiel . Since 1948 he was a member of the economic policy committee of the entire party.

MP

From 1929 to 1933 Diekmann was a city councilor in Kiel.

From 1946 to January 7, 1954, he was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein. From April 11 to June 11, 1946 he headed the Committee for Economics and Transport there. From October 10, 1950 to October 2, 1953 he was parliamentary group chairman of the SPD parliamentary group and opposition leader.

Diekmann was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1969. From 1953 to 1957 he was chairman and from 1965 to 1969 deputy chairman of the Committee for Post and Telecommunications.

Public offices

On June 12, 1946, he became Minister of Economics and Transport in Theodor Steltzer's cabinet . He held this office until August 6, 1948. On February 2, 1948, under Hermann Lüdemann, he also became Deputy Prime Minister and also took over the office of Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, which he continued after his election as Prime Minister.

On August 29, 1949, he was elected Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein. In the state elections in 1950, the SPD lost its absolute majority and only received 27.5% of the votes. A coalition of the BHE , CDU , FDP and DP then elected the CDU candidate Walter Bartram as Diekmann's successor.
