Jürgen Westphal (born December 1, 1927 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1973 to 1985 he was Economics Minister of Schleswig-Holstein . Later he was instrumental in founding the Nordic University in Flensburg .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Hamburg in 1947, Westphal completed a law degree in Hamburg and Nancy , which he completed with the first state examination in law. In 1954 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the University of Hamburg with the thesis "Company pensions with changed economic circumstances of the company" . After completing his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in law in 1956 and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Aviation Law and Space Law Issues at the University of Cologne until 1958 . After that Westphal was head of syndicates at Blohm + Voss AG until 1970 and at the same time was admitted to the bar in Hamburg. From 1970 to 1973 he was a member of the board of HADAG Seetouristik und Fährdienst AG in Hamburg.

Jürgen Westphal is married and has four children. He has been involved in the Rotary Club Hamburg-Wandsbek since 1971

Political party

Westphal has been a member of the CDU since 1961. From 1975 he was chairman of the CDU district association Pinneberg for many years .

MP

From 1966 to 1973 Westphal was a member of the Hamburg parliament and from 1969 to 1973 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group .

From 1975 until his resignation on December 16, 1985 Westphal was a member of the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein . He has always entered the state parliament as a directly elected member of the Pinneberg constituency .

Public offices

On January 29, 1973, Westphal was appointed Minister of Economics and Transport to the state government of Schleswig-Holstein led by Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg . He also retained this office under his successor, Uwe Barschel , who had been in office since October 1982 . On December 16, 1985, Westphal resigned from the state government. Westphal was a judge at the Hamburg Constitutional Court from 1999 to November 30, 2007 .
